INTRODUCTION TO THE ANTI-RAGGING CELL (ARC)
Anti-Ragging Committee aims at active involvement in supervisory and advisory related aspects in preserving a culture of ragging free environment in the KGI campus. The Anti-Ragging squad team will work under the supervision of Anti-Ragging Committee and to engage in works of checking places such as Hostels, Buses, Canteens, Classrooms, and other places of student congregation. Anti-Ragging Committee will be involved in designing strategies and action plan for curbing the menace of ragging in the KGI campus by adopting array of activities.
- Anti-Ragging Cell of Krupanidhi Group of Institutions Bengaluru is conducive to upkeep the safety and educational ambience on the campus and off the campus for its student community. The committee functions with the core objectives of up-holding and uplifting the mission of the institution and in doing so, enhances the quality of life at the campus.
- The members of the committee shall carry out functions that are relevant within the scope of the Anti-Ragging Cell policy by continuously contributing, monitoring, and enforcing the guidelines drawn by the Bengaluru North University.
- The composition of Anti-Ragging Cell Policy touches upon the functionality, procedure, principles, scope, ways, implementation and means of upholding the objectives set by the Anti-Ragging Cell for the institute.
OBJECTIVES OF ARC
Ragging is a humiliating social crime. The foremost objectives of ARC are:
- To prevent and protect the student community from being ragged or indulging in the act of ragging.
- To bring awareness among the students about the ill-effects of ragging, its impact on human life and consequences of involvement in the act of ragging.
- To set up a monitoring system comprising of Anti-Ragging Squad (ARS) to vigil the on-campus and off-campus situations to eliminate the chances of ragging cases.
- To receive the complaints and resolve them through the ARC.
- To initiate legal actions when required considering the intensity of ragging instances in case they occur.
Functions, Responsibilities, and Mechanism
- To implement the provisions of Anti Ragging Act 1997.
- Anti-Ragging Squad will assist the Director and Respective Heads of Departments in prevention of Ragging within their blocks and also in and around KGI campus.
- They will also assist the Director in maintaining discipline in and around the KGI campus during the functions such as Orientation Programme, KRUPACON, Seminars, College Day, etc organized within the campus.
- The squad will function within the block and in and around the KGI campus and report of any incidents to the respective Heads of Departments, who in turn will take suitable action in consultation with the Director.
- The members of the committee shall be vigilant in the campus for ragging related activities.
- If any ragging related activity occurs in the campus, student shall bring it to the notice of committee through the team lead.
- A meeting shall be called to discuss the complaint.
- The views of each individual member shall be taken during the meeting.
ANTI RAGGING POLICY
To give direction in upholding the Ragging free campus at the institute, this policy document will serve as a guide to the Anti-Ragging Cell members as well as to its stakeholders. To make this Policy document relevant, it is recommended that this work be reviewed and be revised periodically as the need arises.
Ragging is a cognizable offense and Krupanidhi Group of Institutions (KGI) will take strict action against offenders.
DEFINITION OF RAGGING
“Any conduct by any student or students, whether by word spoken or written or by an act, which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student. Exploiting the students from completing academic tasks and financial extortion. Any act of physical abuse, including all its variants – sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, and stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health of a person.Any act that prevents disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of other students”.
ANTI RAGGING MEASURES
Pursuant to the directives of the Honourable Supreme Court of India and in accordance with the UGC and AICTE Regulations, on curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, KGI has constituted the Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squads for overseeing the strict and meticulous implementation of all the directives.
- The members of the anti-ragging committee and squads along with their mobile numbers are being displayed for the benefit of the students specially the newly admitted students.
- KGI educates the students enrolled in various programs at the beginning of each academic year about the Anti-Ragging Policy and zero tolerance for ragging at the Institution.
- Each student, as well as his/her parents/ guardian, are mandatorily required to submit separate undertakings in the form of an affidavit at the time of admission to the effect that they are aware of the prohibition of ragging and the punishment prescribed both under penal laws as well as under these regulations.
- Anti-ragging banners are displayed at prominent places in the KGI campus, including hostels, cafeteria, and labs, etc.
- All the Students and Staff should keep their Identity Cards always with them.
- Surprise checks of hostels/ cafeteria/bus stop will be carried out regularly.
- A close and regular liaison is maintained with the local police to guard against the incident of ragging. FIR will be lodged in a police station on all reported ragging cases.
- In case any student encounters ragging by any of the senior students, he/she is immediately required to contact the members of the anti-ragging committee, who will take an immediate corrective action and necessary proceedings will be initiated against the culprits engaged in ragging activities.
- Anti-Ragging Squads will keep vigilance in Boys Hostels, Girls Hostels and other vulnerable areas of the KGI campus. Anti-Ragging Squads, constituted for Hostels will also raid the Hostel in the night. On finding any case of ragging, the squad will report the matter to the Anti-Ragging Committee.
- Anti-Ragging Committee will periodically review the situation and the information supplied by the Anti-Ragging Squads and recommend actions as per UGC regulations. Minutes of the meetings of the Anti-Ragging Committee will be placed before the Monitoring Cell.

WHAT CONSTITUTES RAGGING:-
RAGGING CONSTITUTES ONE OR MORE OF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ACTS:
- any conduct by any student/ students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student;
- indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student;
- asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student;
- any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher;
- exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
- any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students;
- any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person;
- any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, posts, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student;
- any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.
